Winter Review

Ok, ok, I know what you are saying.  I haven't posted anything since April.  Well, it's been a busy and stressful year so this was an easy thing to let slide off my plate for a while.  But while the yard looks like this, I thought it would be a good time to get back into it.

I actually had a lot of changes to the garden this year.  We replaced the siding on the house so the color is completely different.  We also took out the deck (and the concrete patio under it) and replaced it with a paver patio.  I don't know which one I am more excited about!  It is much more relaxing to sit in my backyard now that the biggest changes to the house are made.

Of course that doesn't mean the story of my garden is done.  I noticed this winter that one of the large, over-grown bushes under my front windows is turning brown.  I've never liked these bushes - they date the house.  But the birds, squirrels, and rabbits love them.  And I guess my kids love hiding in them, too.  So I've left them there and dealt with other parts of the yard first.  But the time might have come.  We'll see in the spring how it looks.  If it turns out to be dead, I'll have to dig out all of the bushes.  I've already been dreaming of what the house will look like without them and what I will replace them with.

As for the rest of the yard, I'm waiting for the new daffodils to come in so I can see how they look.  I'm not sure Landon and I planted them deep enough and some of them might have been dug up by squirrels.  Only time will tell.  I also have a little extra garden space from where part of the sidewalk was cut out to accomodate the new patio.  I planted a few bulbs here in the fall, but there will still be gaps to fill in.
