Well I covered up my garden last night, but I didn't cover it the night before because I was told it wouldn't get below 40. Then it snowed. Wet snow that didn't stick and it was mixed with rain, but it was still snow. Hopefully it didn't do too much harm. I still have some plants to put out so we'll have to see if it's warm enough to even want to work outside tomorrow.
| The house with most of the new plants in. I have a couple more to add and mulch, then I'm done changing the front yard for a while. I'll take out out the bushes under the windows later because I don't have enough money in the budget to replace them this year. |
| The new corner flower bed. Hopefully all of the plants in here are well placed and will fill out nicely here. |
| My new tree was looking great, then it rained a lot and it lost some leaves. Then I noticed to of the terminal buds were chewed off. I hope the rabbets don't kill it!! |
| My new Cat's Meow catmint is looking really nice. I'll have to see if I like it better than my Walker's Low catmint |
| I got a short (4' tall) butterfly bush to go in the corner bed and it looks like it's about to flower. That will be wonderful. |
| Most of the plants under the birch are doing well. Rabbits ate a lot of the salvia and all of 4 (of 6) cosmos that I planted, but they have left everything else alone. The transplanted catmint and sedum so far seem to be taking to their new locations. We really just need to wait until the tree leafs out to see if they have enough light |
| I've been worried about these Liatris, but they are finally sprouting. I've seen 4 of the 8 so far come up, but it's only been 3 days so I hope the rest start to pop up soon. |
| I thought my three azaleas were dead. It was a hard winter and they look horrible, but I saw some green buds on them this week. Maybe it's a good thing that the Lake County Plant Sale didn't have the dwarf honeysuckle I was going to get to replace these because they might make a come back. I'm not going to hold my breath however. |
| My hostas look better and better every year. I planted some heuchera in between the hostas but they have failed to emerge yet. I look everyday. |
| I've taken out a lot of the plants in the bed because the catmint takes up so much space. I think I need to add something spring-blooming here. |
| My transplanted, volunteer columbine is blooming now, but the two I've planted on purpose are huge with no blooms |
| My new bleeding heart is loving it's new location. I really thought I had killed it. I bought it in March as a bare root plant. When I checked it out a few weeks later, it was 3/4 moldy. I immediately planted it inside and it did indeed grow. I then transplanted it into the yard where it seems to be making a full recovery. yey! |
| As usual, the back corner of the yard is flooded. It's pretty much just clay back here so it doesn't drain well. I loose most of the plants I put in here, but I keep trying to find something tolerant of the bad soil. |
| I love phlox and the phlox should love the acidic soil back here. It may just not tolerate the bad drainage. We'll see! |
| Someday, this area will be completely yarrow, I just wonder if the tree will still be alive then! |
| Potential baby pears! |
| After being buried in feet of snow and trampled by dogs all winter, my oak-leaf hydrangea looks like it's making a comeback. I had to cage it to keep Penny from squashing it when she hunts squirrels and rabbits (the rabbits use this corner to enter the yard under the fence. |
| Baby Raspberries! |
| The veggies bed is almost all planted. It always looks empty in the spring and overflowing in the fall. |
| onions are looking good so far. |
